Alberta Portrait Photographer - Canmore Stylized Wedding Shoot

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to shadow one of my favorite photographers, Sofia from Sofia Katherine Photography. I travelled down to Calgary on a Friday morning and spent the weekend there hanging out with her and attending shoots with her. The first day was spent mastering the techniques of using a reflector while I assisted her with fashion head shots for the NUMA students make up finals.

Saturday was a total different type of shoot. Sofia had planned out a stylized wedding shoot for the day. The morning started with running all over Calgary to pick up supplies that we would need. First up was the dresses. We headed over to visit her friends at Novia Mia and got some beautiful gowns! We were lucky enough to get one of their brand new ones that they had been raving about. Afterwards we needed coffee! (haha) We were both quite tired and knew we would need it for the day of shooting. After some energy was added to us we made our last stop at Amoborella Floral shop where we got out bouquets for the shoot that they did such a fantastic job on! We met up with our model Chelsey and our hair and make up artist Erin there and then loaded in the car and hit the road to Canmore!

Once we arrived there Sofia drove around up in the mountains and we searched for the best light we could find. We stopped and snapped some shots and then ran back to the car to warm up and then would run back out again to grab some more, it ws not the warmest of days for Chelsey to be standing outside in the snow in a wedding dress. We were lucky enough to find a new road to travel down that led to a beautiful river with the perfect backdrop of the mountains. Here we snapped away like crazy and I got some of my favorite shots at this location. With one more dress change to go we were loosing light so we worked quickly to get the shots, unfotunately I did not shoot any in this outfit because of the lack of time and the cooling temperatures. The day was crazy and becasue we were just stopping on the side of the raod we had no change rooms for our model. She would have to stand outside the car and all of us would have to crowd around her and be on the lookout for vehicles coming. We had a few honks and some people pulling over and stopping after she was dressed to tell her how pretty she looked or to take pictures on their iPhones hanging ot the window, it ws quite comical. We finished off the day by chowing down at a brazilian bbq in Canmore before heading back to Clagary for the night.

Overall it was an absolutely amazing experience and I loved every single moment of it! Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the trip!
